Christmas raffle for kids with cancer

Wednesday 27 November 2019 in News from the Cancer Centre

Buying a ticket in the Oncology Clinic Christmas Raffle gives you the opportunity to win amazing prizes and raises much needed funds for art and craft materials, toys, and equipment used by children with cancer in the clinic.

Tickets can be purchased from Donna and Mira at the front desk for $2 each, or 3 for $5, and the raffle will be drawn on Monday 16 December.

Generous donations for the raffle include an Xbox One gaming console and controller, instant camera, high definition LED LCD television, Dog Man books by award winning author Dav Pilkey, dinosaurs, dolls, toy cars, an Aquadoodle creative drawing mat, a Glow Lab bouncing ball kit and much, much more.

Money raised will benefit young patients who do activities prior to, and sometimes during, treatment. Experiences children have expressing themselves through art, creating craft or playing with toys for fun or distraction while they are in the clinic are significant for their wellbeing. A favourite activity is making a colourful, gooey substance called ‘slime’.

Play Therapist, Angelica Torrijos, said, “Parents tell me that sometimes kids will say ‘Mum, can we go to the clinic so we can make slime’ even when it is not their day to come.”

There is fun for the whole family in the wide variety of items in the raffle, on display near the front desk of the clinic, which will help provide patients undergoing treatment with activities…including the ever-popular slime making sessions.
