Types of treatment

Here at the Cancer Centre for Children every treatment plan follows international best-practice and is customised for your child, the type and location of the cancer, and the cancer's stage of development.

Chemotherapy, radiation and/or surgery are the most common treatments for children with cancer. They are used individually, sequentially or in combination. Decisions about treatment and regimes will be explained by your treating oncologist.

In some cancers, bone marrow tranplants are offered, mostly when other treatments have been unsuccessful.

The information provided here is a general summary of treatments available and more information can be found on the American Childhood Cancer Organization and Children’s Cancer and Leukaemia Group websites.
